Sweet Treats & Swingin’ Sounds 2020

The Sierra Vista Community Chorus proudly presents their 2020 Sweet Treats & Swingin’ Sounds concert …

“Planes, Trains & Automobiles”

  • Dates – Saturday, March 14 & Sunday, March 15
  • Times – 2:00 pm both days (doors open at 1:15 pm)
  • Location – the cafeteria at Buena High School
  • Admission – $10.00 per person which includes wonderful homemade desserts and a full concert by the soloists and ensembles of the chorus. Tickets go on sale Monday, February 10 from chorus members, Ace Hardware, and Safeway.
  • Special – This year, for the first time ever, we are also including a Car Show in the price of your ticket!

The chorus is very excited about presenting this concert for the first time at the cafeteria at Buena High School. This venue offers much more space for the audience, making it possible to present only two concerts this year rather than the previous three. There is also more space for parking and for displaying our fabulous desserts.

Now Is the Time

If you’ve ever caught yourself singing in the shower, or humming along with the radio, the Sierra Vista Community Chorus may be for you! We’ve just finished our Christmas show lineup and will be going on hiatus for a couple of weeks, but we’re back to (fun!) work in January to start our new (and very exciting) Spring Season. The start of a season is the very best time to join, so if you’re interested, show up to Kino Hall (at the St. Andrews Catholic Church) at 9:30 on January 6th, 2020 and we’ll get you all set up.

Spring 2020 will be an extraordinary set of shows, and if you think being in a chorus might be right for you, this is the time to give it a shot. We’ll be performing Motown this Spring, so it’s going to be extra fun! There are no auditions or fees to join our chorus, so you have nothing to lose and tons to gain! Still not convinced? Learn more here!

We hope to see you in January!

Festival of Songs

  • Date- December 13, 2019
  • Time- 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:15 pm)
  • Location- Klein Center for the Performing Arts (formerly Buena Performing Arts Center)
  • Admission- free (donations of non-perishable foods or new, unwrapped toys for ages 1-12 would be much appreciated)

The Sierra Vista Community Chorus festival of songs, “A CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS,” offers you the Christmas spirit through a variety of treasured classics and newer compositions, both religious and secular. The concert is joyfully given by the chorus as their musical gift to the greater Sierra Vista area. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there, too!

In the spirit of the season, the chorus invites everyone to bring a gift of non-perishable food for local food banks or new, unwrapped toys for needy children of age 1 through 12, to be delivered at Christmas by the fire department. The fire department also will accept cash, gift cards, or checks made out to Sierra Vista Fire & Medical Services Toy Drive.

Weekly chorus rehearsals will resume on Monday, January 6, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. at Kino Hall at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church. Men and women of all ages are welcome at to join the chorus at that time. There is no cost to join and no auditions, and it is not necessary to read music to sing with us. We will be preparing for our big spring concert of Motown music to be presented at Klein Center for the Performing Arts in May.

Fundraiser for Volunteer Interfaith Caregiver Program (VICaP)

The chorus presented the representatives of VICaP with $5675.00, which was donated by the audience at the chorus concert on October 18 & 19, 2019.

The Sierra Vista Community Chorus, directed by Sharon Keene, held its 16th annual gospel concert, “SING FOR JOY,” on October 18 & 19 at Faith Presbyterian Church. The chorus was delighted that we filled the sanctuary of the church for both performances, actually almost overfilled it on Saturday, and everyone expressed great joy for our ensembles, soloists, and choruses. A delightful group of girls from Buena Choral Union as well as two Buena girls who soloed just added to the joy of the concert. As our chorus is a 501 (c) (3) organization, we are so grateful to the Herald/Review for providing publicity several times for the concert.

This was a free concert, although we always honor a worthwhile local charity by taking a good will offering for them. This year we honored VICaP, a 501(c) (3) organization which has been providing services to the elderly, disabled, and homebound residents of the greater Sierra Vista area since 1994. It is their goal to help our neighbors continue to live independently and maintain their quality of life, free of charge. On Friday, George Castle, President of their Board of Directors, and on Saturday, Deborah Godwin, Executive Director of VICaP, spoke to the audience about what their organization does for more than 900 people in need in the greater Sierra Vista area by getting them to doctor appointments and trips to the grocery, and much, much more. Well, clearly our audience understood how important this organization is because they donated a total of $5,675.00, which is one of the highest donations ever given by our audiences! Other who wish to add to the donations may send them to VICaP at P.O. Box 3004, Sierra Vista, AZ 85636. If people are interested in becoming a volunteer for this organization, they can contact them at 520-459-8146.

Respectfully submitted by

Linda Gilbert, chorus member since January of 2000

Our New Season Begins

Welcome back from summer vacation! The Sierra Vista Community Chorus begins its Fall 2019 season on Monday, August 19! Now is the perfect time to join! Just show up at Kino Hall between 9:00 and 9:30 AM on Monday the 19th, and our Greeter, Patti, will get you all set up with music and a buddy to help you get settled. There are no dues or fees associated with our group. All you have to do to join is show up and sing!

The Sierra Vista Community Chorus devotes its Fall season to our free concerts that benefit local charities and the Sierra Vista community at large. In October, we’ll perform two gospel shows. 100% the proceeds from those shows goes to a deserving non-profit. In December, we perform our annual Christmas show. Admission is free for this show as well, and we ask that you bring  a non-perishable food item to donate.

Whether you join us to sing, or just like to listen, we are happy to welcome you to our 2019 Fall Season!
